Athletic Therapy is the assessment and treatment of injuries and pain to the joints and soft tissues (muscles, tendons, ligaments) of the body. On your first visit, our Athletic Therapists will do an in depth assessment of your injury or pain and look at the body as a whole to determine not only the nature, but also the cause of your pain or dysfunction. It is important to treat not only your symptoms, but also the cause of the problem in order to eliminate it.

During your assessment, you will receive comprehensive education on your therapist’s findings, as well as a proposed treatment plan. In most cases, some treatment will also take place, a home exercise program will be given, and instructions for self care will be discussed. Subsequent visits or treatment sessions will consist of mainly hands-on therapy techniques such as soft tissue release techniques and joint mobilization and positional change techniques.

Treatments may also consist of progressions to your home exercise program and in some cases electrical modality treatments. Our clinic and therapist philosophies are to spend dedicated one on one time with our patients, treating the cause of your injury to eliminate the problem using evidence base practice (manual and exercise therapy) as our primary tool.

Our Athletic Therapist can treat any pain or dysfunction resulting from: activities, sports, lifestyle, motor vehicle accidents, workplace injuries, unknown gradual or sudden onset of pain or dysfunction. After our assessment, if we feel you would benefit from a different type of therapy or that further medical intervention is required, we will happily refer you to the appropriate professional.

Some examples of manual treatment techniques our therapists are trained in are: myofascial release, soft tissue release, strain counter-strain techniques, trigger point release, craniosacral therapy, therapist assisted stretching techniques, joint mobilizations, muscle energy techniques and traction. Exercise instruction can strive to increase: flexibility, range of motion, muscle re-education/activation, strength/endurance/power, agility, balance, proprioception, post-injury return to sport or life and performance increase. Available modalities include: heat/ice and contrast therapy including Game Ready cryocuff machines, electrical stimulation, acupuncture, ultrasound, brace fittings and therapeutic and kinesio taping techniques.
